Satoshi Kon – Dreaming Reality
by Julien Sévéon

Publisher : CinExploitation - November 13, 2021
Language : French
Number of pages : 232 pages

In 1997, Perfect Blue , an anime like no one had ever seen before, came to the festival. This first film by Satoshi Kon surprises and destabilizes critics. So much so that the filmmaker finds himself compared not to masters of animation, but to giants of cinema in live action: Alfred Hitchcock, Brian De Palma, Dario Argento...

During the next ten years, Satoshi Kon gave birth to three other feature films, Millenium Actress , Tokyo Godfathers , Paprika , and a TV series, Paranoia Agent . In 2010, he died of cancer, leaving behind him a complex body of work, both in content and form. Five creations questioning and answering each other where the director-designer questions in particular the notions of reality, identity but also animation.

Satoshi Kon – Dreaming Reality is the first book in French to explore the career of this major filmmaker who notably influenced Christopher Nolan and Darren Aronofsky. All his works, both manga, cinema and TV, are discussed, both from a factual (production, filming, release) and analytical angle, with the primary desire to always remain close to the concepts, ideas and ambitions of their creator. .

Like all the works in the CinExploitation collection, Satoshi Kon – Dreaming Reality will also benefit from a neat iconography, made up of rare and unpublished documents and photos.
