A long time ago, in an editing room far, far away… offers a privileged view behind the scenes of some of the most significant films of the last fifty years, thanks to Paul Hirsch, editor of Star Wars, for which he has won an Oscar, who also worked on The Empire Strikes Back, Carrie, Blow Out and Mission: Impossible by Brian De Palma, Footloose by Herbert Ross, Day off by Ferris Bueller and A Ticket for Two by John Hughes, Free Fall by Joel Schumacher and Ray by Taylor Hackford.

Through a riveting book, Hirsch brings his career to life in film after film, portraying the defining moments that helped create some of the most iconic scenes in American cinema. It evokes moments that few people know about the casting, direction or music of its greatest films, as well as the directors, producers, composers, actresses and star actors. Half manual for film students, half hymn to legendary filmmakers and film professionals, this entertaining and funny book fascinates while educating, casually, both connoisseurs and film lovers.

Paul Hirsch received the Oscar for Best Editing in 1978 for Star Wars . In 2005, he received his second Oscar nomination for Taylor Hackford's Ray. He is the only editor to have twice won the Prix Saturne for best editing. In 2017, he received a Special Award for an Editor with Unique Visual Sensitivity from the prestigious Camerimage Cinematographers Film Festival in Poland. He lives in Los Angeles.
