Synopsis
 In 1840, Maxwell, a wealthy landowner from Louisiana, forced his son Hammond to marry Blanche, his cousin, to maintain the genetic purity of his clan. Discovering that his wife is not a virgin, Hammond abandons her and begins an affair with Ellen, a young slave. Blanche gives herself up for revenge to a young black man. When Blanche finds herself pregnant, her stepfather rejoices, but the birth of the baby, which is clearly not by Hammond, will trigger a horrible and tragic conclusion.
