Synopsis
At the end of the 19th century, Catherine Sloper lived in a rich mansion in Washington Square, the "beautiful district" of New York, with her father, Austin Sloper, a widower, extremely wealthy and tyrannical. The young girl, shy and without great attractions, meets the seductive Morris Townsend during a ball. The young man immediately courted her eagerly.
