Synopsis
 A former longshoreman, François Cardinaud took thirty years to become what he is: one of the most important men in La Rochelle. His reputation is justified, that of a devious, tough and demanding type. He started and grew up on the port, among a carnivorous fauna, where he who does not bite is doomed to be bitten. Returning to his villa one Sunday after mass, Cardinaud noticed that his wife Marthe had left.
