Synopsis
England, 1645. As war rages between Cromwell's Republican troops and the army loyal to King Charles II, Inquisitor Matthew Hopkins and his fearsome assistant roam the country's roads, summoned by village notables to put an end to to the activity of those whom they consider to be witches and henchmen of Satan. Between the gallows and the stake, after abominable tortures, few escape the supreme sanction. Considering himself above the law, Hopkins makes the mistake of attacking a priest and his niece, whose fiancé, a soldier, vows revenge.
