Synopsis
Bubber Reeves escapes from prison with an accomplice who, after stealing a car and killing a driver, abandons him. Bubber is then charged with the crime. In his hometown of Tarl, Texas, the news of his escape and murder unleashed hatred and passions, held back for too long. Anna, his wife, who has become the mistress of the films of the local magnate, Val Rogers, who committed the offense of which Reeves was accused, fears that his fault will come to light. Sheriff Calder, meanwhile, knows he will have to protect the fugitive from a fanatical mob, who has only one wish: to end the Saturday night party with a lynching.
