Camp ! volume 1 is not strictly speaking an essay, but rather the story of a cinematographic genre, a story overflowing with humor and love for cinema. A novel whose heroes are called Joan Crawford, Vincent Price, Norma Desmond, Paul Morrissey, Baby Jane, Andy Milligan, or even Doris Wishman, a filmmaker like no other, mother of a work that earned her to be compared to Ed Wood or Jean-Luc Godard. A curious odyssey where we come across men in garter belts, women who kill with breaststrokes, wrinkled dolls, fallen stars, spies with bionic bodies. The Camp filter therefore acts as a revealer, which allows us to reread Anglo-Saxon cinema in a new light.
Camp ! is a book-sum, the publication of which will be spread over three volumes. In this first opus, Pascal Françaix is interested in geriatric melodrama (" hagsploitation "), to horror cinema (including Hammer productions) and to exploitation cinema (from Russ Meyer to the drugsploitation ).
