Synopsis
Despite the white flag hoisted by a southern detachment in sign of capitulation, Colonel Devereaux orders his men to fire. A massacre. If his second in command, Captain Del Stewart, remains silent about this war crime, he does so solely out of friendship. When, peace returned, the two men meet again, Devereaux exercises the function of judge with an iron fist. Appointed sheriff, Stewart realizes that he is gradually sinking into madness and covering up the misdeeds of Carter, the most influential man in the region.
