Synopsis
 In the 15th century, Violaine, betrothed to Jacques, puts her marriage in jeopardy by kissing out of compassion Pierre, builder of cathedrals who once loved him and now a leper. Mara, her jealous sister, sees them and convinces Jacques that he has been deceived, while Violaine, infected with the disease, is taken to a leprosarium. Several years later, Mara, who has married Jacques, comes to see her sister with her stillborn baby and begs Violaine to bring him back to life.
