This text is an essay because it tries. He tries to demonstrate what Rocky is. He then opts for a sometimes personal, sometimes analytical vision. Its only ambition is to share a point of view on films and, sometimes, to shed light on their issues through a subjective interpretation, marked by my history, my experience, the intimate and privileged relationship that I have developed with this work. This text does not claim to provide indisputable analyses, on the contrary, it would like to be able to open a path that we are free to follow and pursue or not. It is a loving look that is placed on this work, a benevolent look too. Snap judgments have no place in these lines. The need for this text comes from the fact that, even today, the Rocky saga is still far too often discredited for convenience. There is still a very large void in the cinematographic literature with regard to this series and the intention of this text is to, modestly, attempt to fill a part of it.
