Synopsis
During the Civil War, escaped from a southern camp, Colonel Penbrock joined a northern garrison. He wants to rehabilitate himself with the authorities who take him for a coward after his inexplicable surrender at Fort Holman, now occupied by the enemy. Penbrok jealously guards the secret of his past conduct but ends up obtaining authorization to reconquer, in his own way, the lost stronghold. To save their heads, eight prisoners sentenced to death agree to carry out this suicide mission. Once there, Penbrok explains that it's as much about retaking the Fort as it is about seizing a war chest. The news galvanized everyone.
