Synopsis
First part: In 1547, Ivan IV, a young Muscovite prince, had himself crowned Tsar and Grand Prince of all the Russias. In a climate of betrayal and conspiracies, he decrees that the powers of the boyars, high-ranking nobles who oppose his rule, will henceforth be subject to his sole authority. In order to establish his legitimacy and satisfy his dreams of grandeur, the Tsar then set out to reconquer Russian lands dominated by foreign courts.
Second part: Betrayed by members of his personal guard, Ivan the Terrible decides to face alone the revolt of the boyars who also receive the support of his worst enemy, King Sigismund of Poland. Having become tyrannical and bloodthirsty, Ivan engages in a merciless struggle against formidable adversaries capable of the worst baseness.
