Synopsis
On Shadow Island, an island in the Pacific, three secret agents - an American, a Chinese and an Australian - unite to prevent the Japanese and the Nazis from seizing the secret formula which makes it possible to manufacture synthetic oil to fuel their planes.

Filmed during the last months of the war, this serial is part of the series of propaganda films undertaken by Hollywood during the world conflict.
It was the second adaptation of the famous comic strip by Alex RAYMOND, after that of Ford BEEBE & Cliff SMITH filmed eight years earlier (1937).
Although in the comics the character of Agent X-9 is unnamed, he was named Phil Corrigan in the film version.
The film stars Lloyd BRIDGES, father of the famous Beau BRIDGES and Jeff BRIDGES, who will be, thirty-five years later McCroskey in the hilarious IS THERE A PILOT ON THE PLANE? (1980).
His partner Keye Luke repeatedly played Charlie Chan's "Son No. 1" alongside Warner Oland, in seven films shot in the 1930s.
This serial has the particularity of comprising thirteen chapters.
