Synopsis
In 1984 in East Berlin, the successful playwright Georges Dreyman and his companion, actress Christa-Maria Sieland, are part of the intellectual elite of the communist state. Gerd Wiesler, an officer of the East German political police, the Stasi, is however entrusted with the surveillance of the author, without suspecting that it is a plot orchestrated by the Minister of Culture, who covets the actress and wishes to get rid of her companion. While Wiesler, formidable professional, progresses in the investigation, the couple of intellectuals fascinates him more and more.
